Who we are
The Cornwall Construction Training Group (GCTG) is a not for profit organisation, we support our members by helping them with their training plans and staff development needs.
We are able to provide funding for most training programmes with the support of CITB.
The group is led by a committee of dedicated industry experts.
The Group benefits from close links with your CITB Company Development Advisor who attends our meetings and offers advice and information on grants, funding streams, training and apprenticeships.

Karen Blacklaw CITB Employer Advisor
Karen is the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Engagement Advisor for Cornwall & Isles of Scilly and as their representative works closely with the GTO and Chair to assist and ensure the group continues to receive funding from CITB to support its members.
Karen has over 18 years experience with CITB, holding various roles in the South West and Nationally.
She can provide information and advice on CITB products & services, and assist construction employers to access funding to support their training needs.

Peter George Chair
I am the current Chair of the group.
I have 13 years experience in various construction site management roles and have been an company development advisor with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly for 21 years. I have now retired.
I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Building, (MCIOB) and I have previously been the chair of their local CIOB Cornwall & Plymouth Hub.
As chair I will promote and develop the group to assist our GTO and the CCTG committee to increase our membership and support our members with their training and development needs.

Paul Nicholls Ex - Chairman
It is with great sadness and regret that we announce that Paul has passed away. Paul served as the Chair for many years and his dedication and support will not be forgotten. We wanted to recognise his efforts and so wanted to keep his profile on the website as a memorial to a great man who passed too soon.
Paul worked in the construction industry in Cornwall all his life. He was Chairman of the training group since September 2015 – Aug 2023

Ben Fallowes Vice Chair
Ben is our current Vice Chair and works for Cormac. He is a Chartered Construction Manager with an extensive 25 years experience within construction and is a member of the Chartered institute of Building (MCIOB) and on the local Cornwall & Plymouth Hub committee.
He has considerable knowledge of the industry from his roles as a quantity surveyor and in his various senior leadership roles, which showcase his experience and dedication through numerous award winning projects.
Ben is dedicated to advancing the construction industry in Cornwall, and demonstrates his commitment to growth and development of the industry by being active in these organisations
In addition Ben is involved in Constructing Excellence, Cornwall.

Paul Wong Group Treasurer
Paul is a senior design manager with Classic Builders (SW) Ltd., one of our member companies.
He has to date, 33 years experience of working in building industry.
In his current role he is in charge of all of design management, including infrastructure for housing, commercial, retail, healthcare projects, and with legal and adoption agreements with local authorities and water undertakers.
Paul current role with the group is as our Group Treasurer, he is responsible for the Group Accounts and financial status. He has been involved with the group since 2012 as our Group Secretary, and then elected as Group Treasurer in 2017.

Paula Hutchens Group Training Officer
Paula has been within the Training and Education sector for over 25 years, her passion for supporting people into and through training and education is demonstrated by the support she provides to our members.
As Group Training Officer (GTO) her main activity is is to broker training between members and training providers ensuring a robust provision of accredited qualifications.
Paula also offers advice and information on grants, funding streams, short course/long duration at all level training and apprenticeships.
Paula is passionate about ensuring her clients receive the very best service and experience, working closely together to provide a tailored solution to their requirements, overseeing the coordination, development and implementation of plans to suit their needs.
